How to prepare an API trace for technical review
A long log is not automatically useful evidence. A review-ready trace is narrow, sanitized, and explicit about what was expected, what happened, and where the observed failure occurred.
Effective October 27, 2026
1. Isolate one execution
Choose one API request, webhook delivery, or automation run. Keep a stable sanitized trace identifier so its steps can be related without exposing a real customer, account, or secret.
2. Preserve the six observable fields
- A trace or request identifier.
- A timestamp with a clear time zone.
- The expected behavior.
- The actual observed behavior.
- The relevant step, stage, operation, or action.
- An error, status, response, result, or exception.
3. Remove unsafe material
Remove passwords, keys, tokens, authorization headers, cookies, payment-card data, personal or regulated data, confidential payloads, private URLs, and unrelated log lines. Do not replace secrets with realistic-looking examples; use obvious placeholders.
4. State observations without diagnosing
Write “the downstream step did not record the sanitized event identifier” when that is what the trace shows. Do not turn it into “the queue dropped the event” unless separate evidence proves that cause.
5. Decide whether more evidence is needed
If any required field is absent, collect it from a safe non-production reproduction or an approved source before buying a diagnosis. If all six fields are observable, the trace may be ready for a separately scoped technical review—but readiness still does not prove correctness or root cause.
What the $0.02 agent pull includes
An authorized buyer agent can submit exactly one sanitized UTF-8 text trace of no more than 60 KB through the published machine contract. Zinvyl returns only a deterministic ready or not-ready verdict, the observable checklist, missing-evidence items, and an input digest after independent automatic validation. Diagnosis, root-cause analysis, repair, implementation, production access, and guaranteed outcomes are excluded.
